Seeing the light

3-6_001 Guideposts

A recent shoot for Guideposts magazine. I was on location in Rochester, MN photographing Erica Vetsch and her two children.

3-6_002 Intern

On the way back to Minneapolis from the shoot, a unique photo opportunity presented itself in the form of a giant replica of a motorized scooter. What better way to introduce my new intern, John Fontana; standing tall atop the “big rascal.” Welcome aboard!

Holm’s Home

Holm_Promo_090406

Word came today that Bill Holm had passed while in route from Arizona back to Minneota (his home town here in Minnesota). My time with Bill last year, shooting for the McKnight Foundation, were some of the best hours with a subject I've ever had. Farewell my friend. You've left a better mark than most, and for your time, and mark on me, I am grateful. Coincidentally EightHourDay just put the final touches on the e-mail promo piece (above) that will be going out soon to promote the latest "Photo Feature," featuring of course - Mr. Holm...

Big Red

2-22_Target_b
2-22_Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel

Target's long standing CEO Bob Ulrich recently retired passing the torch to Gregg Steinhafel. We had a bit over 5 minutes with Gregg yesterday - shooting for Target's Diversity Report via the Mpls. based agency Little & Company. Gregg's a laid back guy who when asked who his biggest mentors are replied, "My wife and the previous CEO Mr. Ulrich." Right answer and in the right order was the reply I gave. In this town it's only a matter of time before you shoot for Target and I am happy to say my time with Big Red went as smooth as can be hoped when given 5 minutes with the Mick Jagger of retail...

“The Bridge”

2-9_002 Business week 35W Bridge
2-9_003 Business week 35W Bridge

This is the second assignment I've been commissioned to shoot focusing on the Minneapolis bridge that collapsed, its successors construction, and completion. This piece, shot for Business Week, featured John Chiglo who is the manager of the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The lines and light were quite nice. Feels a bit like a super hero...

US Bank

2-4_005 US Bank
2_4_007 US Bank
2-4_001 US Bank
2-4_006 US Bank

Shoot for Intrinzic, an agency based in Cincinatti for US Bank. The story is about "travel" and features 5 US Bank employees on and around the Mpls. light-rail. Cold day for 5+ hours shooting while dressed for a "spring" look.

90 + Proof

1-27_syngenta

Out in Colby, Kansas shooting another project for Syngenta via Weber Shandwick Worldwide. I’ll be here two days shooting almost every aspect of turning corn into Ethanol or a damn strong libation. It’s basically a large brewery that runs 24 hours a day, 364 days a year – one day off to? Sip? Place is bustling to say the least. Turns out you can actually drink the stuff until the last step, which is when they add 2-3% gasoline to keep people from, well filling up something other than their car…

St. George’s University - Grenada

1-21_003 Halo Group, St. George's
1_21_004 Halo Group, St. George's

Project for The Halo Group, an agency based in New York for St. George's University of Grenada. Series of ad's for their various medical degrees. Good times that included a few hours with a lion cub - less than 6 months old.

Bird + Bricks

Mexican Landscape

A lone bird sits atop a mound of dirt and sawdust that will soon become bricks at an adobe brickyard in Mexico.

Schoolyard - Mexico

Schoolyard - Mexico

It's recess and I am on the playground. I received full access to an elementary school via my gracious guide Roberto yesterday. Roberto, in his early twenties, took me to the school he attended as a child and introduced me to his old principal who said, "vaya donde usted por favor - (go where you please)." Imagine trying to secure this access without prior authorization at an elementary school in the US? It was a great experience and I plan to make prints to personally give the principal before I leave Mexico.

Dog Prep - Palm Springs Dog Show

1-05_001

Second of two shoots for Colle+McVoy / Purina. This time in Palm Springs, CA where the weather and light were near perfect. I wasn't planning to leave my family during our break, however, this project was too good to pass up. I left for three nights / four days and had another great shoot in an environment with unlimited potential for imagery. I'll be posting a larger body of imagery from this project on the "archive" section of the site soon.
